Both London Luton airport and Gatwick airport are directly linked to St Albans on the Bedford-Brighton railway route. There is a shuttle bus from London Luton airport to Luton Airport Parkway railway station, and inclusive tickets can be purchased online, at the airport terminal, or on the shuttle bus.

Stansted Airport is less than 40 miles away via the M11 and M25 motorways, or by National Express coach from Stansted to nearby Hatfield, which is a short bus or taxi ride from St Albans.

Heathrow Airport is also easily accessible. There is a direct bus link, service 724, from Heathrow to St Albans.

National Express coaches also provide services that link the neighbouring towns of Hatfield and Hemel Hempstead with London Stansted airport, London Heathrow airport, Luton, London Gatwick airport, Oxford and Cambridge.

  • Access by Train

St Albans City station is just 20 minutes away from London’s St Pancras International Station on the Thameslink train line.

The line connects St Albans to a variety of other London underground stations including:

  • West Hampstead (Jubilee Line)
  • Kentish Town (Northern Line)
  • Farringdon (Metropolitan, Circle, Hammersmith & City lines)

There are also frequent services throughout the day and night, between St Albans and Gatwick airport (1 hour 15 mins), Brighton (2 hours), Bedford, and London Luton Airport. You can connect with London Overground ‘s North London Line at West Hampstead Thameslink station.

St Albans Abbey station links St Albans with Watford Junction via the Abbey Line for National Rail connections to London Euston, the West Midlands and the North via the West Coast mainline.

St Albans City Centre is well connected on the local bus network with services from North London, Welwyn Garden City, Hatfield, Luton, Watford, Bushey, Hemel Hempstead, Potters Bar, Dunstable, Borehamwood, Stevenage, Heathrow, as well as routes to the city’s suburbs and outlying shopping areas.
